Day 6 of AEDM

For day 6 I decided to visit a WIP.  This past summer I visited AK, a beautiful state.  This trip inspired the creation of one of my wire trees.  I have been trying to decide what to do with it and was just thinking that it would be nice mounted on a piece of wood and a wire business card holder mounted next to it.  I think it would make a nice desk accessory… hmmmm?

This picture of the tree is in its unfinished state, with a stone I picked up off the beach of Nome AK.

Well, as often happens with me, I switched gears and ended up with something different than I planned to do.  I didn’t like the wire business card holder(s) I was trying to make.  So, I just played around… bending and twisting the wire.  I figure I can just put them in my stash of embellishments for a future project.  That’s all right, I’m retired and don’t need a holder for business cards anyway!  🙂

Something more to add to my stash.

Putterin’…not Postin’

Well, I’m on the 6th day of AEDM.  I’ve been doing art, but not posting the results.  I’m a terrible blogger.  So, I’m just going to put in pictures of my puttering over the past few days.  I’m amazed that so many people come up with great ‘FINISHED’ projects.  Whenever I sit down and try to think of something to do, I draw a blank… no pun intended.  So, I just grab some art supplies that I like, or want to experiment with, and make marks.  What I’m finding is that I am coming up with many WIPs.  However, while puttering, I’m getting ideas for future projects.  I think that my WIPs are going to end up as backgrounds.  That’s okay with me.  I like doing them.

I just put the date down on paper and doodled around it while watching TV. This is one of my favorite pasttimes.

Yaaaaaay! I found my Gelli plate. I’ll be working on more background papers as soon as I find my brayer and stencils. (I recently moved all my arts and crafts stuff to the basement, and I haven’t got it all organized yet.)

Ahhhh. I just love playing with my Derwent Inktense Blocks and my water brush. This is definitely a WIP. I’m thinking I might cut it up in 4×6 pieces and use on greeting cards.

Day 2 of AEDM

Wow!  I can’t believe it is already November 3rd.  I don’t have much time for blog hoppin’ this morning. I’ve got some housekeeping chores to do… and piles of leaves to tackle in my back yard.  I love fall.

Yesterday I dug through my pile of doodles that I keep hidden because they didn’t turn out quite to my liking.  I had decided to work with the Copic Opaque White pigment that I found in my stash the prior day, to see if highlighting some areas would please me more.

I did some more doodling with my Pigma Brush pen, and then highlighted several areas with the Opaque White.  I’m beginning to like it better, but I’m going to set it aside and ponder on it some more.  Perhaps I’ll come back to this WIP some other time during AEDM.

1st Day of the AEDM Challenge

I have joined several creative challenges while blog hoppin’ but normally don’t follow through. However, I love seeing what others come up with. This is the first time I have joined AEDM and I am already feeling intimidated by the beautiful creations of the talented people who have accepted this challenge.  Although this is the 2nd day of the month, this posting is what I did for AEDM on the first day.  Obviously, my posting will be at least a day late.  Anyway….

I started out making ink blobs with blue, red and yellow Bombay inks. My thought was how you can’t go wrong when you use the primary colors.   I dropped it on my paper and blew on the blobs with a straw (until I almost passed out).  There was still too much ink, so I dabbed it with a paper towel and tried drying the rest with a heat gun.  The results were not to my liking.  My plan was to doodle around the blobs.  This has worked well with me in the  past to get my creative juices flowing.  HA!  This was obviously NOT one of those times.  The blobs were very overwhelming, to say the least.  Oh well… I decided I should just see what I could do with this, and I added a squiggly object on one of the yellow blobs.  Whoa!  I forgot to take a picture of what I started with.  So, I took a picture. Yuck.

Okay… feeling somewhat crestfallen at my results, I still stumbled on with a Micron 08 Ink pen.  Before long I was totally frustrated with my results so I just made random scribbles around my “art” piece.  BLA HA HA HAAAAA. This was not going well.

I hated it.  But it was getting late in the evening and I wanted to say I at least was up to the challenge for one day.  So, I rummaged through my art supplies and found a small jar of Copic Opaque White.  Hmmm.  I don’t think I have ever used this.  It looked like it was dried up.  I googled it online to find out what it was used for.  I learned “Opaque white is a white pigment/paint you apply to finished drawings with a paintbrush to add highlights, or “glints” of white. Opaque White is used for corrections too.”  Ah ha!  The last sentence grabbed me.  I stirred up the contents of the jar and brushed and dabbed it on my “doodle.”  Lucky for me, it wasn’t dried out like I first thought.  I wasn’t happy with my picture but I think I have a new favorite medium for use in future endeavors!

After that I just fooled around with a Bic permanent marker, and finally gave up on the idea that I was going to have a masterpiece.  This is going to go in my pile of paintings that I can gesso over for future projects.

Yuck!

Normally I would not show stuff like this, but I needed proof (if only for myself)  that I did create something on the first day of AEDM. And now I’m thinking ahead at how I can use the Copic Opaque White.  Maybe I will come up with something for the second day of the challenge.  Like, I wonder if the Opaque White would work in the new FineLine applicator bottle I just bought.  Hmmm.

Already the creative juices are swirling around in my head. Stay tuned to see how I use these on my next endeavor.

Hoppin’ Around Today..

I’ve been blog hoppin’ in my jammies since mid-morning today.  It is now about 1:00 pm and I’m thinking it is about time to get dressed in “public” clothes.  As I said in my last post… I love being retired.

Before I get off this pc I wanted to note one of my favorite blogs by mixed media artist, Jane LaFazio… here. While checking out her latest posting, I got interested in ways to use up my fabric stash.  That led me to several YouTube videos (Yup, I’m addicted to YouTube too.) and gave me a lot of inspiration for a future AEDM project.  Now that I have saved that link, I am going to get dressed.  🙂

Getting Inspiration…

Okay, while blog hoppin’ today I was watching for a technique to try during an Art Every Day Month session.  I ended up on a YouTube channel that I had previously subscribed to and found Vivian Keh. Her style really hits home with me. So, I am putting a link to her blog here, so that I can come back to it later for inspiration.  As for right now, I don’t have time to write about anything because I’m still in my nightgown and I have to get dressed for an appointment.  (For what it is worth, it is after 1:00 in the afternoon.   I love being retired.)

Art Every Day Month is November

During my blog hoppin’ today I discovered the blog posting for Art Every Day Month (AEDM) by Leah Piken Kolidas.  I love seeing what other artists create by visiting their blogs; and I am often inspired to experiment with their technique on a creation of my own. I rarely share my creations with others.  And, I need some incentive to create every day.  So….   I’m joining up with the followers of Leah’s blog,  and accepting the challenge for November.  Let’s see how this goes, since I am terrible at blogging regularly.

As for today..  I am still trying to figure out what to do with my wire art trees.  They are sprouting up all over my house….wire trees for blog

I re-visited one of my favorite blogs, which I shared a link to in my first post.  I love her “glitter houses”… although I’m not too sure about having glitter all over my house too.

I do enjoy creating with paper, and miniature paper houses might be just the right setting for wire art trees.  Stay tuned, I might be onto something here.   It may be my creation for the November 1st challenge!

Wednesday at the PC

Not much happening today.  I just learned how to color the background on this blog.  Progress is being made…. bit by bit.  Today I was checking out one of my favorite blogs by Linda Kaiser of The Paper Boutique.  She has made some 3-D box cards that fascinate me.  She uses a Silhouette cutting machine to create the shapes.  I have the Silhouette Cameo, and I’m wondering if I might be able to make a 3-D box card with one of my wire trees (see below) on it.  Hmmmm.  I’ll post some pictures if I come up with something.

Tuesday at the pc….

Yesterday I set up this blog to display some of my favorite blog postings (by other bloggers) and to have a place to start out on my morning bloghoppin’ sessions.  At this time, this particular blog is WIP.  I’ll fix it up later.  Meanwhile, I want to show the blog I discovered this morning. It is done by an artist named June Crawford.  I love what she does. When I figure out how to do it, I’m going to list some of my favorite blogs on a sidebar.
